Should I put my Master’s Degree in Chemistry from UC Berkeley on my home page? (It’s currently not there, but it is on the “Why Me” page.) Or, to put the question another way, will B2B clients be impressed by a Master’s in Chemistry, or will they be turned off, thinking I may be snooty, too academic, and expensive?

Hi Ed and All … When I started at the end of last year, I gave myself until the end of March to either have collected a check from writing or go back to working a job. (The freelance music business I have had for decades is not as profitable as it once was. It has a heartbeat. But it’s on a feeding tube.)

LinkedIn has become a regular part of my outreach; applying both for jobs there and reaching out to marketing and creative directors.

I’ve also been sending emails to my golden nuggets and my personal contacts — tho not as much as LinkedIn

One of those golden nuggets contacts hired me in his insurance office. I’m doing admin and CSR. He is expanding his agency so I was happy to fill in the calendar on April 1st. Since I’ve been there, he has been building out a new website and considering an AdWords campaign.

So I offered to write some copy for him. He loved it. I wrote some content in the home and auto vertical. He loved it.

My question is: Does this qualify as ‘Landing A Client’?

If it does, then Thank You!!

It doesn’t feel like a win tho. I’m getting $15 an hour which we know is way below market value. But it got me out of my office and into an area (insurance) I never thought I had much expertise in. Plus I’m working by April 1st.

I’m still struggling to finish the ‘Accelerated Copywriting’ course from AWAI. But I started working with you and your team because I knew I needed a gig quick.

Everyone has been extremely helpful. I still plan on letting this play out to see where it leads. I wanted to reach out and let you know how it was going.

    All the Best,

    Dan G
