I’ve been sending out emails for a couple of months now, but still do not have a client. I’m probably averaging 1 per day – recently a little more, but realistically over time that’s what it’s been.
I’m considering some changes such as:
1. Contact people more directly via LinkedIn
2. Contact multiple people within the same company
3. Widen the scope to an adjacent market (i.e. my focus is project management software, but I could add project management training/education, where I have lots of experience, to that)
4. Write some ‘free posts’ or comments for some blogs, maybe even directly on prospect sites if possible
5. Write more posts on industry sites to add to exposure
6. Start a blog
7. Start regular articles on LinkedIn
8. …
Can you comment on these ideas? What is the best path in the short run to gain a paying client? And I also realize that there is surely a ‘sweet spot’ in the market – clients that have enough money and have good growth prospects, vs companies that are more mature and have more established processes in place already. I have not tapped much of a ‘referral’ approach yet. I’m concerned about burning cycles without income from the effort for too long.
I’m embarrassed to say that I am having trouble with confidence with regards to sending out cold emails. I understand this is a necessary part of doing business. I want to possibly get more training on this. Unfortunately, my personality is such that I like to be fully prepared and armed with knowledge and confidence before I put my neck out there. It’s a Virgo defect I think.
Can you provide some additional resources, books, or refer me to more training where I can build up my confidence level and master cold outreach?
Or possible mention some suggestions on the call today. I will be listening in at work.
